Tournament of Prog Metal: #MISSEDPICKS ROUND 1, PAIR 2

ENSLAVED – “Riitiir”

Vs.

NEVERMORE – “Dead Heart in a Dead World” (ADVANCES)

Drucifer’s pick “Dead Heart in a Dead World” beats out Aaron’s pick “Riitiir” easily, 7-2. Power metal beats black metal.

  1. I liked both of these albums. It’s hard to describe, but the guitars have a kind of resonance that kinda makes you feel like part of the sound. I prefer Nevermore although “Dead Heart in a Dead World” sounds more Emo than I usually go for.

This was my pick. I didn’t have a Prog Black Metal category in the original 32, but happy to have Enslaved here. This band has a ton of albums I haven’t heard enough to consider vs “Riitiir.” All I know is, I keep going back to this one, and haven’t enjoyed the others as well. I think “Veilburner” has some of the most brilliant vocal harmonies I’ve ever heard. I’m curious what y’all’s favorite Enslaved albums are.

    Brian – “Riitiir”
I vote Enslaved.  As far as wank off guitar goes,  Jeff Loomis has some good personality especially on River Dragon.  But Nevermore is too cheesy.  Too many eye rolls to vote into next round. And Enslaved is really good. Nice of Akerfeldt to do guest clean vocals on the entire album.

Luke Rager – “Dead Heart in a Dead World”
I’m going with Nevermore. River Dragon wins it on its own. Other Enslaved albums would be better contenders for me.

Krychek – “Dead Heart in a Dead World”
    For nostalgia

Moe – “Dead Heart in a Dead World”
