HAKEN – “Virus” (ADVANCES)
Vs.
LEPROUS – “Bilateral”
HAKEN dominate over LEPROUS in a 5-2 route. Upon further inspection, “Pitfalls” would have won, as the greatly preferred LEPROUS album for our bubble. But that’s how the game is played.

I think I’ll go with Leprous in this round.

I pick Haken. I’ve probably listened to it 30 times since it came out. Pretty much a total package for me. One of the biggest reasons I like it so much is the callbacks to “The Mountain,” which I think is a better album. Even withall that high praise though, it was only my #2 overall for 2020.

Haken, bro. Love the synth.
Aaron – Bilateral
Very close. “Virus” is excellent, but the lyrical cliches bother me. I can’t pick a favorite track on Bilateral because there are too many great moments. Track 1 and 2 are clear favorites on “Virus,” and it loses points for the early 2000s pop-rock intro of “Carousel,” which bothers me every time. Almost did a double take the first time I heard that track. Probably doesn’t help that it comes right after my favorite section of the album, which is the latter half of “Invasion.”
Brian – Virus
Leprous is a lot more inventive, which is good, but a lot of that kind of misses for me. Haken is solid throughout, and I prefer their vocals.
Mo – Virus
Neither of these are my favorite album by either band, but “Virus” is dope.
